Troy Alford grew up in Portage, Indiana,
a small city about 30 minutes East of downtown Chicago.
As the only child of two loving parents, he grew up faithfully attending services at the Portage Church of Christ,
where his mother had worshipped for many years. While he now considers himself an Agnostic,
a strong religious background and a very socially conscious upbringing left Troy with a strong sense of morality and a
belief in charity and kindness toward others.
Surrounded by positivity, Troy never had much trouble with school. Following a series of accelerated classes from
the time he was in 2nd grade, he graduated from Portage High School in
June of 1999, and went on to attend college at the University of North Florida
the following Fall. Studying primarily Psychology, Philosophy and various computer languages, Troy spent nearly two
years at UNF before transferring back to Purdue University Calumet
to finish out his AS and BS degrees in Computer Information Systems, both of which he received in December, 2002,
graduating Magna Cum Laude.
After finishing college, Troy entered the US Army in June of 2003
on a 4-year enlistment. Upon entry, he attended Basic Combat Training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma,
and then went on to Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Lee, Virginia,
where he was trained as a 92A (Automated Logistical Specialist). Upon graduation he was assigned to C Battery, 2-82 Field Artillery
at Ft. Hood, Texas. Arriving in the unit in November of 2003,
he deployed with the unit to Kuwait, and then Baghdad in early March, 2004, remaining there for 12 months, and returning
to Texas in March of 2005. In September of 2005, he was again sent overseas, this time to Camp Humphreys,
South Korea, where he served first in E Company, and later in HHC
(Headquarters and Headquarters Company) 3-6 Cavalry
until the unit cased its colors and reflagged as 4-2 Aviation Regiment. During service in Korea, Troy served the
unit first as a supply specialist, and then as the Squad Leader for the Command Group, and the Batallion Commander's
driver; the position which he held until exiting the service in June of 2007.
During his service period, SPC Troy Alford earned a number of decorations, but most notably: the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM)
with one oak-leaf cluster, the Army Good Conduct Medal (GCM),
the Iraqi Campaign Medal (ICM), the Overseas Service Ribbon (OSR)
and the Military Outstanding Volunteering Service Medal (MOVSM)
with one oak-leaf cluster.
Since returning to civilian life, Troy has taken a position as Lead Software Developer with Agri-Business Solutions.
Following his love for life-long learning, however, Troy is always looking for external and additional sources of income,
especially when the achieval of such goals can lead to the increased knowledge and prosperity of those around him as well.
Because of this, he is currently involved in several other business interests.
